[12-9-2016] The College of Consultors for the Diocese of Raleigh convened to elect a Diocesan Administrator to serve the Diocese until a new Bishop is appointed by the Holy Father. After prayer and discernment, they have elected Monsignor Michael P. Shugrue who accepted the position and will lead day-to-day operations.
Arthur Powers went to Brazil in 1969 and lived most his adult life there. From 1985 to 1997, he and his wife served with the Franciscan Friars in the Amazon, doing pastoral work and organizing subsistence farmers and rural workers unions in a region of violent land conflicts. The Powers currently live in Raleigh North Carolina. Arthur received three awards from the Massachusetts Artists Foundation.
Dr. Walter Tan is a interventional cardiologist, vascular radiologist and director of the cardiac cath labs at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He specializes in high risk procedures for high risk patients. His clinical interests are Coronary Artery Disease, Valvular Heart Disease, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, Structural Heart Disease, and Cardiac Catheterization.
Brian has been a parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church (Cary, NC) since 1992. He was ordained a deacon on June 28, 2014 in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC. He assists the parish priests with liturgical, sacramental and pastoral duties.
Lucy Vidal-Barreto holds a Bachelor in Science and a Doctor of Dentistry (DDS) degree from the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. She earned a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration (MHA) from UNC-Chapel Hill. She also is a “Leadership in Public Health” Fellow, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business/School of Public Health. Dr. Vidal-Barreto has been appointed twice by the North Carolina Governor to the Fayetteville State University Board of Trustees.
His professional background is in Computer Technology. Programming is what he does best, especially in the field of Clinical Trials (applications in Oncology). His education and professional career have included the following: University of Houston, St. Louis University, Aquinas Institute of Theology, Harvard University, and Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.
